We'll even throw in a handicap sticker to boot!" Said Slick Willy Car Sales Manager.
In looking at the world in which we live, it's become apparent to me that we're living a maze that never seems to have an end. We live in a highly artificial, and well designed plannedopolis that keeps us in suspended states of animation. We are kept in a state of always wanting and needing the "next" shiny toy or pretty object. We are kept in states of dis-satisfaction in which we never find contentment. Another phrase for this is whats known as the "American Dream!"
The American Dream is actually a nightmare, and it has led to the destruction of the lives of many people who've given up just about everything in order to obtain it. Broken families, jacked up finances, unhappiness, loneliness, frustration, bad health, the abuse of drugs, spiritual death, mental breakdowns, etc, are just a few tokens that can be found among the seekers of the American Dream! It's the old carrot on the stick trick, and generation after generation keeps falling for it. The American Dream is designed to keep you paper chasing so that those at the top of the pyramid can live like kings while we keep the hamster will turning that powers the whole system. In essence, we fund our own enslavement. What a deal! Sometimes I can't help but marvel at the absolute brilliance and diabolicalness of the whole scheme! The system in which we live, through the mirage of the American Dream, is powered by our paper chasing life force. Thus, the design of the system rest on our desire to acquire more money to purchase more stuff that we won't be satisfied with because the next new and improved upgraded model will be better. It'll have two buttons instead of just one!
There's a secret. You wanna know a secret?! The secret to breaking the chains of Babylon is to be content. Yep! just be satisfied with your current state and the system will lose its power over you. Just - let - go! I know this is easier said then done. Heck, I even have trouble some days with keeping my desire for stuff under wraps, but if you want to get control of your life back from the system, you have to let go. We must learn and hone the art of being content.
To be content is to be satisfied. It's the key to having peace and staying out of many traps set by the enemy of our souls. He plays on our carnal appetites, and our appetite for pleasure is a very strong one. New stuff tends to bring us temporary pleasure and the enemy as an expert at supplying our wants and desires. Whether it's a new car, new phone, new shoes, new dress, new house, new boyfriend, new wifey, or new you! It doesn't matter. The newness becomes ordinary, and back on the hunt you go. Thus, it behooves us to allow the Spirit of Jesus to manifest and work in our lives to break chains and bring freedom!
We must give way to the Holy Spirit and allow the fruit of contentment to grow and manifest in our lives. This takes hard work and diligent effort on our part, but anything worth having is worth working for. The Bible is clear in that the love of money is the root of all evil and that to achieve contentment with Godliness is of great gain. Contentment promotes peace and helps us realize that life does not consist merely of what we possess. Life is about relationships, community, loving God, and loving our fellow man. Seek God's Kingdom and everything else will come! With regard to the economy and the way things are going these days, this is going to be a lesson many of us are going to be forced to learn one way or the other. Thus, it's better to learn the lesson of contentment during moments of abundance rather than scarcity. In other words, it's better to learn how to diet during feast times as opposed to times of famine!
In short, Break free from the illusion of the American Dream through the power of being content. It will be one of the best things that you could do for your self! May the grace of our lord be with you always!

For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 1 Timothy 6:7-10
And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. Luke 12:15
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33
