Genesis 32:24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.
While on a shopping errand I happened to run into a friend. As we began to chat and discuss the happenings in our lives, I made the statement that it seems as if there is always a storm, struggle, or "situation" that's going in my life. Do you ever feel that way?! It seems that life is made up of one long continuous struggle with moments of rest and breaks. For the most part this is true in that we live in a world that's designed to test, purify, and bring us to maturity ready to be an acceptable bride to the soon coming Groom. We must struggle in order to reign with God!
Life is a struggle! Like Jacob, we are to learn how to struggle with God in order to move from a place of spiritual infancy to spiritual maturity. It's about moving from fear to faith. It's about learning to totally depend upon God in His infinite wisdom verses the pride of men in their finite knowledge. Jacob had tricked his brother Esau out of his birthright, and supplanted him in the reception of the first born blessings. In doing this Esau's anger was "white hot" towards Jacob causing Jacob to run in fear to distant relatives. While hiding out, God brought Jacob through a process of maturation that eventually lead to a major test in Jacob's walk with God. He met God in a wrestling match, was weighed in the balance, and found fit for blessing. Jacob moved from a place of fear to a place of faith in believing what God had said concerning his future. Jacob still had reservations about returning home in fear of his brother Esau, but God assured him everything would be okay and confirmed his promise by blessing Jacob. To wrestle with God is to reign with God!
God simply doesn't want you to submit to Him, but invites each and everyone of us to try Him, put Him to the test to see if His words are true, to reason with Him and to struggle with Him as a way of maturing and growing in trust. God ain't no punk, and invites questions, tests, and your best shot at Him. You may come out of the match up with some bruises, bumps, and limps, but you will be a tried, toughened, and mighty warrior fit for kingdom Work.
Moving from Fear to faith isn't easy and requires that we be willing to do whatever it takes to receive our blessing. God doesn't have an army of jelly backs, so we all have to go through basic training before being placed on the battlefield of faith! This is easier said then done, but be encouraged to stay in the fight of life and to not stay down when life hits you below the belt. Simply just don't let go until God blesses you! STRUGGLE! May the Grace of Jesus be with you always!
