We live in a booming information age! Because of advanced technology and the internet, we can click a few buttons and view what we desire in a few seconds. We no longer have to leave the comfort of our homes. What we want now comes to us. Unfortunately, everything that we read and are exposed to online isn’t real, isn’t true and isn’t the best for us. There is bullying on social media websites, stalkers in chat rooms and elaborate schemes designed to separate your money from your bank account. We won’t even discuss the massive amounts of porn sites and obscene popups that assault you when you’re minding your own business. While conducting an innocuous search, you type in a few letters and poof; you see far more than you could ever imagine.
There are also thousands of religious and philosophical doctrines floating around online. All are designed to grab you in a moment of weakness and set up shop in your mind. If you ponder their tenets too long they will spawn doubt and have you questioning everything that you know and believe about Jesus and His Word, the Bible.
The popular hymn “The Solid Rock”, written by Ruth C. Jones, says, “Be very sure your anchor holds and grips the solid rock. That rock is Jesus.” Although World War II was the inspiration behind this song, its message is just as relevant today. I believe it was written to warn us that no matter what happens, what we see, hear or experience in this life; hold on to Jesus who is the Only Way, the Truth and the Life John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Because of the downward spiral of the economy many people have lost their homes, jobs, life savings, and even their minds. Some in a moment of desperation and hopelessness have killed their families, and then themselves. But I say to you today, Hold onto the Rock! Hold onto the Word that has comforted you in previous times of turmoil. Continue to work out your soul salvation with fear and trembling Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Make your calling and election sure 2 Peter 1:10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall . Truly salvation is nearer than when we first believed Romans 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. Jesus never promised that this journey would be filled with ease. However, He did promise to never leave nor forsake us Hebrews 13:5-6 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. Thanks be to God! We are not alone as orphans in this Godless world.
If you have wandered off the path of righteousness, this is a good time to course correct. If your faith isn’t as strong as it once was, cry out to Jesus and He will restore you. Dust off your Bible and re-familiarize yourself with the scriptures that once provided a safe haven for you in previous storms. His everlasting arm of strength is available to you and He’s standing with out-outstretched hands waiting to commune with you. The winds of change may never stop blowing in this life, but Jesus, our Rock and Fortress will keep you grounded through it all.
