Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man Proverbs 6:6-11
I just finished reading the book, Managing Oneself, by Peter Drucker, and it got me thinking about my behaviour, and how I really need to buckle down and get my "house in order." It's caused me to pause and to take inventory of myself, my lack of self knowledge and self-discipline, and how that's affecting my quality of life. My lack of self-awareness, my undisciplined thought life, and bad habits are wreaking havoc on my behavior causing me to not be the best me that I could be. Thus, due to my straight up laziness, many areas of my life are being hindered big time!
We live in a world that's constantly on the go, and there seems to be a shortage of time going around. I fear that we as a society is losing site of the importance of taking moments of self inventory to see what and where behavioral tinkering needs to be done. We're becoming less disciplined, increasingly impulsive, and aren't taking enough "time-outs" in order to notice the effect this is having on our lives. For instance, I recently joined a local gym a few days ago as a result of a little self inventory and decided that I needed to hone the art of practicing self control and that my physical body needed a little "tinkering" to say the least. All I can say right now is, "So far, so good!" We'll see how long I keep this up. But, one of the things that I've come to realize is that not only do I need to make physical adjustments, but getting fit, in shape, and disciplined also includes other areas of my life as well.
Not only do we need to get in shape and fit physically, but getting fit includes other areas like:
In short, there are moments when we may have to take self-inventory, discover more about ourselves and who we are, and learn how to manage ourselves in multiple areas of human existence. There are many areas in which we can seek total fitness in pursuit of becoming the best person that we can be! We mustn't be afraid to pause, take a look, and employ a little discipline to get "totally fit!" #faithfitnessandfun
