Friend, "Hey Kevin, did you watch the game last night?"
Me, "Uh, there was a game on last night?"
Friend, "Duh, Alabama verses Notre Dame! The battle for the BCS!"
Me, "Sorry, didn't catch any of that, I was to busy sleeping and resting up for the game called life." "My family is broken and dysfunctional, there is more month than money in my checking account, uncle Sam keeps hijacking and picking my back pockets, my health is in decline, terrorist wanna chop my head off and blow me up, I don't know if there's another financial cliff on the horizon, the FDA just approved the use of genetically modified Salmon, we're at war with Syria while in route to war with Iran, children are being murdered in our public schools, fifty percent of black children conceived are aborted, cancer rates and other diseases are off the charts, the suicide rate amongst our soldiers are at an alarming all time high, my water is being poisoned with a concoction of chemicals under the label of sodium fluoride...." My friend just walks away. I just think to myself, "Nope, don't have much time for the BCS."
As I go about my daily business I'm constantly reminded that I'm in the biggest game known to man. The game of life. The prize of victory unfathomable, and the consequence of defeat unspeakable. Like a marathoner, I chug along and grind out each step with the finish line in sight! Like a shadow boxer, I dance, bob and weave, and contend for my faith! Like a Greco-Roman wrestler, I wrestle against the spiritual forces that seek to tap me out! Like a NFL lineman, I stand hard for my faith not giving up one iota of field to the enemy of my soul! I would love to stay up and watch a game, but I'm to busy preparing for the one that counts. For I know that if I lose this game my soul is at stake. In the words of Sweet Brown, "I ain't got tyme fah dat! Lawd Jesus these people don lost their minds!"
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. Jude 1:3
A Psalm of David. Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight: Psalm 144:1
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Ephesians 6:12
Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. I Corinthians 9:24
