Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways. For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee. Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD. The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life. Yea, thou shalt see thy children's children, and peace upon Israel. Psalm 128 -- I love this Psalm, for it paints a beautiful picture as to what matters most here on Earth and what I should spend my time pursuing to build.
As I placed the barbell back in the holders of the flat-bench rack, a question came to mind, "What are you building?!"
"What am I building!?" I pondered.
"Well, at the moment, while readying myself to lift what seemed like a ton, give or take 1999 pounds or so, I'm building my body," I thought.
But as I meditated on the question more and more, I discovered that the probing depth was core shaking, the magnitude of the implications life changing, and that the answers rendered from this question was a game-change paradigm shifter that would affect not only me, but my legacy.
There's more to this life than meets the eye, and while it's good to build your physical body, mind, and emotions, it's more important that we build and fortify our spiritual man which has implications on our legacy beyond this world. We're admonished to seek the Kingdom of G-d first, and then let him direct and guide us in our Earthly journey. Which in turn ensures that what we build here on Earth has value, matters, and has lasting power.
Seeking and making our peace with the Creator of the Universe through His son Jesus ensures that what we leave behind is a legacy of life that results in joy, contentment, spiritual restoration, love, charity, faith, peace, wealth, sound relationships, and mind transforming knowledge and wisdom to name a few tangibles. Thus, in connection with the Father, what we do with our lives, invest our life force into, and build will have value and replicate into eternity!
Building your body, having a good job that provides for you a decent living, and obtaining a solid education are all important, noble, and worthwhile endeavors, but don't forget that the pursuit of the Heavenly is just that more important. What we do in the physical realm of existence provides a means by which we learn heavenly lessons. We're engulfed by the spiritual realm and we must complete our training unto maturity. We're admonished to build with this nugget of Truth in mind.
We must remember that we're in a spiritual battle for the hearts and minds of men, women, and children, and it behooves us to make sure that we're in tip top shape in all areas of our lives. In order to be strong warriors on the battlefield of faith, we want to build up and strengthen every area of human existence possible.
Fortify and build up your physical body with good food, clarify and develop a sharp mind by learning how to use your imagination in combination with logic based in Truth, stabilize and wield control over your emotions through the realization that perfect peace brings about fearlessness, as well as make and maintain a clear line of connection through the power of prayer to Your Heavenly Father through His only unique son Jesus Christ.
In this process of your journey to complete wellness and wholeness many things will become clearer to you, namely that the priorities we're brainwashed to have are backwards, have no spiritual satiating power, and are empty. You'll soon realize that there must be a shift-- a change. In time you will notice that what the world teaches you to chase after, pursue, or invest in holds no candle to what's really important in life.
in Short, instead of chasing money, cars, fame, women/men, and fortune, I soon realized that the pursuit of a healthy relationship with The Almighty, good wholesome and decent relationships with people, the ability to be a wise steward of Earthly resources, having satiating and meaningful conversation with family and friends, and just plain'ol relaxing and enjoying everyday life is what matters most. In doing this others will notice that you're different and that there's something peculiar about you. You're not like everyone else. You do things "backwards" and "upside down." Thus, you begin to become salt and light to those around you who dwell in a dark, depressing, fear filled, sick, and chaotic world. In short, you begin to leave a legacy of life abundant versus continuing one of death and destruction.
A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. Proverbs 13:22 -- A good man builds and pursues a life that enables him to leave behind an inheritance not only for his children, but for his grand-children too.
It behooves us to remember that our lives are important, have purpose as well as meaning. What we do with them not only affects us as individuals and our personal lives, but those around as well. Your spouse, children, family, friends, and acquaintances are not only watching you, but they're making decisions about their lives based on what they see in yours. So, I'll pose the question to you, "What are you building?" Are living, building, and leaving a legacy of life more abundant...that is to say a life that produces more life leading unto eternity, or one of darkness, fear, and emptiness that ultimately leads to destruction?
