Do your best! And forget the rest! Toni Horton
Well, it's official, I've decided, committed, and plan to succeed with another round of P90X. Please!! Pray for me as I embark on this journey to better health. I, like so many, battle the many hurdles that get in the way of goal acquisition. Procrastination, mediocrity, time management, lack of motivation, and just plain'ol slothfulness all seem to find their way into my life, and set up camp in front of my goals of better body, mind, and spirit. Physical exercise is important to overall health. It's crucial that we find ourselves participating in some form of strenuous activity on a regular basis. Most of us know this already and are living examples to one universal truth. Most battles are really in the mind. One way I've learned to get over the mental obstacles is by determining my why. When the regret of not having to do something is greater than the pain of actually doing it, then that's when things start to happen. I definitely want good health and find it painful to not feel and look the very best that I can. If you've read my recent post titled, My Journey, then you know where I'm coming from with this statement. I know what it's like to have good health and lose it. I don't want to lose it again. In addition, I find it painful to not be the best version of me that I can be. At the very least I can try, right?!
Why should you want to participate in a workout program like P90X? Or Insanity? Or Zumba? Well, how about just being able to walk across a long parking lot or climbing a flight of stairs without it taking every fiber of strength to complete. How about having enough energy to play on the floor with your little ones after a long day at the office. What about not worrying about what the hot chicks in the bikinis might think when you take off your shirt at the beach. Are they going to run in horror the opposite direction or are they going to react like the girls in those Axe commercials?! How about waking up in the morning not feeling like the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz! "Will someone lube my joints please!" How about getting the natural high that occurs after a good workout! What about having an increase in mental alertness! Ladies, how about having an unanticipated "Big O" experience as some women do while exercising! How about having the whole construction crew take a break as you stroll past! How about getting out the shower and walking past the mirror catching a glimpse of yo'self being like, "Am I half Brazilian?!" What about being able to get the kids up, fed, off to school, house cleaned, laundry done, errands ran, dinner fixed, kids picked up, kids to soccer practice, husband/wife greeted with a smile, family fed, kids in bed, and having enough energy left over for me or us?! How about not having a diminished quality of life due to some chronic illness or dying of cancer?! Etecetera, etcetera, etcetera! I could go for days about the possibilities of why anyone should/would want to make exercising a daily habit. You have to sit down and figure out what's big enough to make YOU move. All I know is that I want optimal health and I love feeling the way that I do as a result of participating in programs like P90X. You don't always have to go to the gym or hire a personal trainer for that matter. You just need the motivation to do something. Every small step counts and adds up. Don't think that you have to have a lot of time or money to have a good exercise program. Truthfully, all you really need is about sixteen minutes of good solid high intensity interval training, otherwise known as surge training, or burst training and you're on you way to great health.
In short, any good exercise program has to start with the answered question of why. When you know why you're doing something, it will help you fight through those tough moments. It will help see you through tribulation on your way to triumph! Stay tuned as I document my journey through P90X. It will be interesting to say the least. Maybe it'll be an epic victory or a tragic fail!
