I had to speak at my church one time and I recalled a story I heard…There was this little boy who's mother told him that he could not eat any more cookies. But when the mother walked in the kitchen there he sat at the table with his hand in the cookie jar. Of course, the mother got upset and yelled at him but the little boy had a reply. "But mom you said not to eat any cookies before supper and that I am not." This made the mother confused and so she asked him, "Then what are you doing with your hand in the cookie jar?" "Mom I didn't eat any I promise and I wasn't going to", he said as he lifted his hand out of the jar. "All I wanted to do is to hold them, I can't have them but I just wanted to smell them, look at them, and touched them. I just needed to hold them in my hands."
This little boy had an obsession with cookies, it was so powerful that he couldn't handle the thought of not having one. Just like that little boy we are holding on to things that we shouldn't. Even when we have been told not to, even when we know we shouldn't be close to, and even when we know we should let go, we still just want to hold on to it.
Let go before its too late.
